Pakihi Valley Honey Launches into Jiangxi

2024-01-09

The Pakihi Valley, located in the Opotiki District of New Zealand's Eastern Bay of Plenty, is now home to a new honey production venture, Pakihi Valley Honey. Known for its association with Barry Crump, a famous New Zealand author, the valley has embarked on a journey in the honey industry, leveraging its abundant manuka plants.

This venture is a collaboration with local landowners in the valley. The honey, harvested from the valley, is bottled in the Bay of Plenty and is currently sold in Jiangxi, China. This initiative aims to strengthen the economic relationship between the Opotiki District and Jiangxi Province.

In a unique approach to branding, a local artist from Opotiki has been commissioned to design the labels for the honey jars. Each batch features a different native bird found in the Pakihi Valley, adding a distinct and local touch to each batch of honey.

The first batch of Pakihi Valley Honey was successfully shipped to Jiangxi at the end of 2023. The primary goal of this project is to provide economic benefits to the landowners involved, utilizing their land productively and fostering economic growth in the region.

Looking ahead, there are plans to expand the Pakihi Valley brand to include other locally sourced products like ginseng, further promoting the valley's resources and contributing to the local economy.
